Fashion designer, stylist, and creative visionary, Arlinda McIntosh is best known as the force behind Sofistafunk, a boutique design house specializing in voluminous, picturesque, and sustainable skirt collections. With over 45 years in the fashion industry, she has built a reputation for designs that blend artistry, empowerment, and timeless style.
Arlinda’s career began in the 1970s at the Norma Kamali factory, where she honed her technical and production skills. By the 1980s and 90s, she had established herself as a sought-after designer, creating original pieces for legendary artists including Lauryn Hill, Mary J. Blige, Faith Evans, and Queen Latifah. Her private clientele has included actresses such as Anna Maria Horsford, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Anika Noni Rose.
In 2000, she launched Sofistafunk, The Skirt Co., with her daughter-in-law. Today, Sofistafunk is recognized for bold, zero- and low-waste designs that have appeared on television, film, stage, and in leading publications. Her signature Gathering Skirt, inspired by her North Carolina roots, remains central to her brand—symbolizing versatility, strength, and self-expression.
